POPIA stands for the Protection of Personal Information Act (Act 4 of 2013). It is South Africa's primary data protection legislation.
How MotoBidz complies with POPIA
1. Lawful processing
We collect only the personal information needed to operate the introduction platform. We do not collect information we do not need.
2. Purpose limitation
Your information is used only for the purpose it was collected — running car listings and facilitating seller-dealer connections.
3. Information security
All personal information is stored securely with encryption in transit. Access is limited to authorised MotoBidz staff only.
4. Seller contact protection
This is our strongest POPIA commitment: seller contact details are never exposed to dealers without explicit seller consent (accepting a bid) and a confirmed payment of the R 1,500 introduction fee. This is enforced at the database level, not just the interface.
5. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Know what information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Object to processing of your information
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator
